What a great day! The clouds and the wind did not deter our intrepid reporters. We made it up to Olive and Fee Fee in twelve minutes. That gave us about an hour to interview people who were coming in and out of the shops. Happy China and the gas station seemed to have the people most willing to talk.

Each group got at least 4 people to talk to them, so we’ll have about 20 interviews to splice up. The kids were great and very brave. They remained undaunted in the the face of rejection (and more rejection).

I took the Flip Camera with us–it was great to get the kids’ reactions when they finished an interview. The energy level was high. An added bonus was that Mr. Landow came back to help. It was good to have an extra hand.

Some things to think about next year:

  • having them change roles–I didn’t insist on it, but I probably should have. Not everyone would be a good scout, but it would be good experience for everyone to try. There’s no reason that everyone could not work the camera or do the sound check.
  • paper–I put super-stickies on each clipboard with the release forms so that the kids could take notes about the order and what was said (briefly) in each
  • log–maybe someone could do a quick log while filming to help with editing process
  • reminding the kids to emphasize
    • the school name
    • the class project
    • a few questions for a documentary film
    • scout going ahead before camera crew
  • assigning blog before–I want them to blog about their experiences before they forget and the weekend is going to dull their memories

I think they’ll have a lot to work with and we need to start editing on Monday!
